Malware Android apps have existed for a very long time and have been disguising themselves as reputable apps for many years. The spread of malware on the platform is only becoming worse despite Google continuously adding new features to Android and the Google Play Store.

There appears to be a new name added to that expanding list right now. Nathan Collier, a MalwareBytes intelligence specialist, corroborated a previous report on My Online Security regarding a dangerous programme that looks like WhatsApp. According to MalwareBytes, the WhatsApp Plus app was initially discovered in the middle of 2017.
The application, known as WhatsApp Plus, is marked by VirusTotal as malware and may be able to steal data from Android phones, including images and phone numbers.

When a user instals the programme, it allegedly directs them to an Arabic-language homepage listing all the purported extra features that make WhatsApp Plus a more sophisticated version of WhatsApp. The majority of those capabilities appeared to promise the ability to keep WhatsApp activity hidden from contacts and friends. It’s interesting to note, though, that not all bogus apps will direct users to the Arabic-language website that Collier accessed.

Receiver, services, and activities with the prefix com.gb.atnfas include Wtaspin.GB.
Several phoney WhatsApp APKs contain this code. The code points to the Arabic webpage to update, which is the only difference between the aforementioned version and the one above.
